This article reviews the current concepts about vesicoureteral reflux and point to some unanswered questions about its eiology, pathophysiology, diagnostics, natural course, consequences and treatment modalities. In future more studies are needed in order to better determine its relationship to lower urinary tract dysfunction, causes of its cessation with age, risk factors for renal scarring, new diagnostic methods, especially ultrasonography and radionuclide techniques.
